The Pentax Optio W90 was announced about a month ago. Its the latest waterproof, shockproof point-and-shoot camera from Pentax. I got a sneak peek at the W90 at the PMA tradeshow, the day before it was announced. I made sure they knew I wanted one as soon as it was available. Pentax was the first camera company to make a waterproof digital camera (Pentax Optio WP), way back in 2005. Waterproof cameras have come a long way since then and the new W90 is no exception. Its a 12-megapixel camera with 720p video and its waterproof to 20 feet and can withstand drops from 4 feet. Its the perfect camera for active outdoor people.

Sony had one of the busier and more interesting booths at PMA this year.

Hoya Corporation Pentax Imaging Systems Division announce the launch of the Pentax Optio W80 digital compact camera.
In addition to its outstanding waterproof, dustproof and cold proof capabilities - which allow for up to two hours of continuous underwater photography at a depth down to five meters - the new Pentax Optio W80 offers outstanding shockproof performance to withstand a fall from a height of one meter.

Canon PowerShot D10 waterproof camera emergesPre-PMA 2009:

Canon has launched the PowerShot D10, its first waterproof digital compact. It is claimed to be waterproof up to 10 meters, freeze proof up to -10 degrees, shockproof when dropped from a height of 1.22 meters and dust proof. In addition, there are a range of optional protective accessories available. The camera has a 12.1MP sensor, 3x optical zoom and a 2.5" LCD, and includes Smart Auto Mode, Face Select & Track, Blink Detection and Face Self-timer. (04:00 GMT)
