When the over-the-top hype met the reality of Apple's iPad, a majority of consumers decided they didn't need, and wouldn't buy, the new device, a survey published today said.

"There was too much hoopla," said Manish Rathi, co-founder of Sunnyvale, California-based online retailer Retrevo, which conducted two polls of more than 1000 American consumers each, one survey done before the iPad's January 27 unveiling, the other after. "There was so much [hype] that afterward, people were underwhelmed because they expected it would slice bread."

LONDON (Reuters) - Two thirds of businesses are unaware they will be able to use their own name in place of domain extensions such as .com, .org, or .net when Internet domains are liberalized next year, according to a survey.

The change would let the likes of Nike or Microsoft control their own domain and better exploit their brands, and also counter cyber-squatters who use variations of brands on the 280 or so existing domain extensions.

No wonder Gallup's pollsters rank Utah No. 1 in the nation in terms of its residents' feelings of well-being. They must talk to lots of people like George W. Marlow.
