LG Rumor Touch will be available in the first quarter; pricing and availability will be announced at a later date. Customers can already pre-register.

SEOUL (Reuters) - LG Electronics Inc, the world's No. 3 mobile phone maker, aims to increase handset sales by 20 percent this year and is pinning its hopes on Google's Android operating system to beef up its smartphone range.

The South Korean company faces stiff competition in 2010 due to its relatively weak footing in the booming smartphones business against Apple Inc, Research In Motion and Nokia.

New Motorola mobile pops up : Yet again, an unknown Motorola smartphone surfaced, this time its the Motorola XT800. Googles Android OS seems to be becoming the saving grace for Motorola, as they were appearing predominantly in negative light in the news until recently. With the Google Android as OS, in only a few months there has only been positive news announced about Motorola and its products lately. Additionally, the unofficial Motorola roadmap is showing big plans and some interesting cell phones that will be made available in 2010. The Motorola XT800 is such a phone, although it has not yet been officially announced, it has leaked out, with some specifications.

Even a year after its debut, the original RIM BlackBerry Bold remains one of the top-10 most popular cell phones of 2009 and we can understand why. The robust productivity tools, extra-large display and keyboard, and great multimedia performance made it one of the best all-in-one messaging devices around. However, as with all tech gadgets, there comes a time when a product reaches the end of its shelf life and the masses start looking for something better.

According to recent information, we can expect some mobile phone news about the trio of the moment: Sprint, Microsoft and LG Electronics, at the coming CES 2010 (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, US. It appears that they will be making quite a weighty announcement, but accordingly, we will take it with a grain of salt.

A researcher has shown that practical attacks on a long-standing mobile phone standard are possible.

The algorithm used to protect the security of communications on 80 percent of cell phones in the world can be relatively easily cracked to intercept calls, according to cryptographers at the 26th Chaos Communication Congress, a computer conference in Berlin. A German researcher presented an attack on the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM)--showing it's possible to eavesdrop on cell phone calls and intercept SMS messages. Mobile phones worldwide use GSM, though in the United States many carriers, including Verizon and Sprint PCS, use a competing standard.
