HELSINKI (Reuters) - Nokia has started deliveries of its new top-of-the-range model N900, a key product for the world's top phone maker in its battle against rivals iPhone and Blackberry.

Nokia Chief Executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said in a speech the company started deliveries of the phone on Tuesday.

The N900 model is Nokia's first phone running Linux Maemo operating system, which analysts see as a key for Nokia to gain back ground in the coming years.

Linux will be the first operating system with official support for USB 3, an Intel open-source developer has announced.

Sarah Sharp, who works in Intel's Open Source Technology Centre, says on her blog that support of USB 3 would soon be integrated into the Linux kernel.

"This is a giant project that I've been working on for the past year and a half. It's gratifying to see the code finally released, and exciting to know that hardware is on its way," she writes. "I hope that some USB vendors who have prototypes will test with my driver."

One of the cornerstones of the landmark interoperability deal between Novell and Microsoft was virtualization.

Two years after they struck their agreement, Microsoft and Novell have extended their partnership. The partners are now finally rolling out a supported Linux on a Windows virtualization solution.

The new supported Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server on Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization offering comes as the Microsoft ramps ups it products and rhetoric ahead of VMware's own big conference in Las Vegas next week.
