Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, (ADTA), in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Ports Company and Abu Dhabi Terminals, has erected a new tented cruise terminal at Mina Zayed which is capable of simultaneously accommodating 1,300 passengers.
The facility has been designed to cater for the 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 cruise seasons. The terminal spans 2,000 square metres and comprises two dedicated halls one a luggage-handling facility, the other a passenger centre complete with a waiting lounge, security section, prayer rooms, offices, visitor information centre, currency exchange as well as customs and immigration facilities.
Carnival Cruise Lines is rolling out the most ambitious initiative the company has ever undertaken with the launch of Fun Ship 2.0 to enhance the guest experience with new dining choices, bars and lounges and better entertainment options. The first phase which extends through until the end of 2015 will cost $500 million.
Jamaicas Minister for Tourism, Ed Bartlett, is predicting a 6% growth in tourism arrivals to the island this year, almost twice that recorded last year.
The Tourism Minister attributed this to the time and resources spent putting the infrastructure in place to grow the travel and tourism sector, including deliberate strategies to increase air capacity, to the island.
Cruise arrivals, which registered a decline in 2009, are projected to increase by 5% this year.
