Sony had one of the busier and more interesting booths at PMA this year.
Not only did they make the biggest announcement of the show (see Sony Compact Alpha Announcement), they also had some new and exciting compact Cybershot cameras, two of which were featuring here in videos from the Sony booth.

The PMA tradeshow was somewhat uneventful this year. All the big camera announcements were made either at CES in January or before PMA opened.
Other than a few point-and-shoot cameras, the biggest announcement this year was a compact Sony Alpha concept camera to be released later in 2010(Sony Compact Alpha announcement). That the biggest news of the show was a price-less, spec-less concept camera that was only shown behind glass, says a lot about PMA this year. The new Alpha is (will be) a compact, changeable lens, mirrorless system camera like the new Samsung NX10 and the Panasonic and Olympus Micro Four Thirds cameras.

Just when we thought 12 Megapixels to be a standard for a compact camera, and camera manufacturers had stopped tumbling over each other in order to introduce the highest possible amount of pixels, Aptina comes to spoil the fun. Aptina is offering a new MT9F001 image sensor to the manufacturers, featuring no less than 14 Megapixels. Here we go again Naturally, a sensor should achieve an optimal performance, and yes indeed; the sensor is able to capture full video (1080/60 fps). And just where will we see this Aptina 14 Megapixel sensor? According to the information we received, Sanyo seems to seems to have taken a fancy to it / seems to be rather taken by it.

It was a bit of a tight race betweent pocket cameras and digital SLR cameras, but more ZDNet readers (48%) voted that they need their DSLRs when traveling. 296 readers voted in the poll, but it should be noted that more than one option could have been selected.

Camcorders proved less necessary with 3% each for both mini and standard HD camcorders. Write-in votes came in for mainly accessories like extra batteries, tripods and waterproof camera bags.

You don't need to be on safari to appreciate the benefits of a big zoom range (in fact the target audience for many of the cameras in this group is what's known in the US as the 'soccer mom' market), and in the last few years the super zoom sector has grown dramatically with at least one model in most manufacturers' lineup.
The appeal of being able to shoot everything from a sweeping landscape or cramped interior to a tightly framed telephoto shot with a single affordable - and relatively compact - camera is easy to understand; finding your way through the sea of seemingly very similar models is more of a challenge. We decided to look at seven of the latest models to find out if they are as similar in performance as they are in specification and design.
