LG is back in the limelight at the Society for Information Display (SID) 2010 trade fair with possibly the world's first 84-inch 3D TV. This mammoth is also the first of its kind with four times the resolution of full-HD panels, thanks to its native 3,840x2,160-pixel screen.
This display still requires 3D glasses, but the chaebol is also at the same event showcasing a 47-inch 3D TV that does away with these goggles. The key enabling technology here is the "liquid lens," though details on this solution are sketchy at the moment. If its double-image (or infamous crosstalk issue) is an eyesore for you, LG is demonstrating a polarized glass-based 3D TV said to minimize this problem to less than 1 percent.
LAS VEGAS (Hollywood Reporter) - As Dreamworks Animation prepares for the May 21 release of "Shrek Forever After," the studio is converting the first three movies in the hit franchise to the stereo format for a 3D Blu-ray Disc release."Our movies exist in digital files to begin with. To go back and rebuild to a quality 3D experience is not inexpensive, but we are about to achieve a pretty high quality result," company CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said Wednesday at the annual National Association of Broadcasters convention
The South-Korean cell phone market is often ahead in terms of innovations. Recently we ran into a Samsung SCH-W960 smartphone. At first glance it doesnt seem very special if it werent for the fact that this Samsung phone is actually the first Samsung 3D phone. Unfortunately it is only destined for South Korea right now, but 3D is being developed world-wide, so we wont be surprised if we will soon run into a Samsung 3D phone in the rest of the world. The first information that we received seems to point to a function in the Samsung W960 smartphone that makes it possible to convert video to 3D with the push of one button.
In all fairness there are few things I'd rather less have appear to be in my living room than 22 footballers, but this is still rather exciting news...
In a joint announcement Sony and FIFA have announced the 2010 South African World Cup will be the first to be shown in 3D and Sony has secured the deal to produce it.
"3D will undoubtedly transform the way we enjoy content in the Living Room, said Fujio Nishida, president of Sony Europe. At Sony, the 3D entertainment experience will not only focus on the 3D TV alone, but from 2010 will also encompass a range of 3D compatible products such as Blu-ray Disc players, VAIO notebook computers and PlayStation 3 [via firmware update]."
August 1, 2007 Prosthodontists use a new digital technology that creates a 3D image of patients' teeth, eliminating the need for messy molds. A hand-held scanner takes digital pictures of a patient's damaged and surrounding teeth. The three-dimensional images are then displayed on a screen, and then sent electronically to a lab that creates a final, more precise fitting crown.
Patients are all smiles about a new, mess-free way to make teeth impressions. Now, there's new hope for dental patients enduring the unpleasant, messy process of making teeth molds.
